Who we are
Digital by Default is a London-based AI automation consultancy and the operator of this website and related products (including Dottie.cloud agents on this site). Our website is www.digitalbydefault.co.uk. Contact: hello@digitalbydefault.co.uk.
For UK GDPR purposes we are the data controller of personal data collected through this website.
What data we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:
- Enquiry and lead forms — name, email, phone (optional), company (optional), message, area of interest, case-study requests, quiz answers and scores, discovery-call intake answers
- Newsletter — name and email (double opt-in where configured)
- Live AI chat / agent demos — messages you send, session identifiers, page path, and any contact details you choose to share so we can follow up
- Technical and security data — IP address (for rate limiting and abuse prevention), browser user-agent where provided by the host, and bot-protection tokens (Cloudflare Turnstile)
- Analytics — aggregated usage data via Google Analytics (see Cookies below)
How we use your data
We use this information to:
- Respond to enquiries and send confirmation emails
- Deliver requested materials (for example case study PDFs) and quiz results
- Operate live agent demos and improve our products and marketing
- Send the newsletter if you have subscribed and confirmed
- Protect the site from spam and abuse (rate limits, bot checks)
- Understand how the site is used (analytics) so we can improve it
Lawful bases under UK GDPR typically include: consent (newsletter, optional marketing where required), legitimate interests (responding to business enquiries, securing the site, improving the service), and contract / steps prior to contract where you request a discovery call or proposal.
We will never sell or rent your personal data. We only share it with processors who help us run the site (listed below), or where required by law.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use:
- Essential / functional — for example local storage to remember if you dismissed a banner, and session keys for live chat rate limiting
- Security — Cloudflare Turnstile may set cookies or use similar storage to distinguish humans from bots on forms and first chat messages
- Analytics — Google Analytics (property ID starting
G-) to measure page views and events. Google may set cookies or use client identifiers. You can block analytics cookies via your browser settings or extensions
Where PECR requires consent for non-essential cookies, we will present a consent choice. Until a full consent banner is in place, you may opt out of Google Analytics using browser controls or Google’s opt-out tools.
Third-party services (processors)
We use the following services to operate the website. They process data on our instructions:
- Vercel — website hosting and serverless functions (may process IP and request logs)
- Resend — transactional email (confirmations, notifications, newsletter confirmations)
- Cloudflare — Turnstile bot protection
- Upstash / Vercel KV — short-lived storage for rate limits and newsletter confirmation tokens (where configured)
- Anthropic and/or Vercel AI Gateway — processing of messages you send to live AI agents/chat so a reply can be generated
- Google — Google Analytics; Google Fonts; Google Calendar if you book a discovery call (booking is on Google’s systems under Google’s terms)
Some providers process data outside the UK/EEA (for example in the United States). Where that happens we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses offered by those providers.
Related properties we operate or reference (for example dottie.cloud) may have their own privacy notices when you use them directly.
Data retention
- Enquiry, quiz, case-study and chat-lead records: typically up to 24 months, or sooner if you ask us to delete them
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe or we delete the list entry
- Rate-limit and confirmation tokens: hours to days (short-lived technical data)
- Analytics: retained according to our Google Analytics configuration (typically months, not indefinitely)
You can request deletion at any time by emailing us.
Your rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability where applicable. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@digitalbydefault.co.uk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
